How Rotas Can Help Institutions of Higher Learning

Welcome to Rotas Security

We understand the key challenges, as outlined below, that institutions of higher learning face every day. We assist with those challenges through penetration testing, vulnerability assessments, red teaming, social engineering, security program engineering, and cybersecurity training.

Key Challenges

Common threat where users are tricked into revealing sensitive information through malicious emails or links.

Cybercriminals encrypting critical data and demanding a ransom to decrypt it.

Unauthorized access to sensitive student and staff information.

Malicious actions by employees or students with access to sensitive systems.

Using outdated software and hardware with known vulnerabilities.

Students and staff not being educated about cybersecurity best practices, making them susceptible to phishing and other attacks.

The vast number of connected devices and users on a university network increases potential vulnerabilities.

Complying with regulations regarding student data protection.

Insufficient budget to implement robust cybersecurity measures and hire dedicated security personnel.

As the cybersecurity landscape continues to evolve, educational institutions must remain vigilant by investing in regular penetration testing. This maintains compliance and also protects their reputation as well as providing a safer educational environment. Educational institutions must prioritize their cybersecurity strategies – starting with thorough and regular penetration testing.

The 2025 ACCS-VA annual conference

We will have a booth at the 2025 ACCS-VA annual conference on March 12-14th in Portsmouth, VA. The goal of the ACCS-VA is to facilitate the sharing of a common interest in information technology and its implementation in the higher education environment of the Commonwealth of Virginia. This conference is a chance for higher education IT personnel to meet with technology experts from around the commonwealth.

We attended the 2024 VASCAN conference

The VASCAN conference was a gathering of technology experts and IT personnel from different higher education institutions from around the commonwealth. In addition to our booth we had a lock pick village set up where people could learn lock picking skills, and they were taught a defense in depth strategy which can be applied to informational security.
